Here’s your weekly roundup of news from the club.

  • 2024 Events: Simon Cox has come forward to run the 10 mile time trial in April. Well done and thank you! In due course he’ll need some helpers on the day – if you’re keen please get in touch. Or, you could ride it…https://www.cyclingtimetrials.org.uk/race-details/26570
The BSCC men’s and women’s road races will currently not be taking place as we do not have organisers. Would anyone like to volunteer – we have lots of knowledge in the club to help you? It’s a great experience and adds real value to amateur cycle racing.
  • BSCC Monthly Strava Competition update: It may be too early to definitively proclaim this as the greatest ever year for the monthly competition – but January has been a top start. 31 members rode the double-kicking Providence Lane a promising start to 2024. The two fastest riders have a more familiar ring to them: Nick Livermore and Katherine Brand – but there’s more than a suggestion that Douglas Walker will give them a good run for their money over the next 10 months.
Esther Ive held the ladies’ fastest time until the final day. Cameron Graley was 3rd – with the best time vs expected. Looks like even the HR competition is going to be competitive – Ben Core with a 189 average. So eyes now turn to February: Daniel Kempe has chosen a variant of a segment we’ve run before – if you’re setting a time please don’t draft other riders or cars! – solo times only up: https://www.strava.com/segments/1894025

  • Time trial season is here: Closing date for the Severn 25* which takes place on 18th Feb is today, 6th of Feb. This year there is a 2-up TT included, always popular with road bikes so why not give it a go? It’s close enough to Bristol to ride out there, HQ is usually either in Stone or Falfield on the A38.
Links to main TT, 2-up, tandems. Also, it’s the first round of the WTTA Hardriders series. If you want to plan your season, look here.
*Not 25 this time due to roadworks – just 12.2 miles instead.
The second Hardrider event closes next Tuesday (13th) Bath CC.
  • Local Audaxes coming up: Both on Feb 24th:
    Mendip Flop 102km
Goats Head Soup Century Ride 167km
